Born 1960, in Madrid ( Spain). She graduated in Chemistry (1987) and obtained her Ph.D. also in Chemistry (1996), both from the department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering at Complutense University of Madrid (Spain).He began his research career in January 1989 joining to the Materials Program of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Technology, CIEMAT (Madrid), where he remained until June 1991. After receiving a grant holder from the European Commission (1991-1995) joined the Institute for Advanced Materials, Joint Research Centre, Ispra-Site (Italy) for his doctoral thesis in the field of high temperature oxidation of nickel alloys.
She joined at University of Vigo in 1995 as Assistant Professor and since 2001 she is Full-Professor at the Department of Engineering Materials, Applied Mechanics and Construction. Her teaching activity is developed in the field of Materials Science and Metallurgy Engineering.
She belongs to the ENCOMAT Group, where she performs her research activity.Her research is mainly oriented to surface engineering of alloys and currently to surface metal matrix composites developed by friction stir processing (FSP).
She was head of Materials Engineering, Department of University of Vigo from 2009 to 2015, and from 2001 to 2004 was Vice-Head of the Higher School of Mining Engineering (http://etseminas.uvigo.es/) of the University of Vigo.
